What is cross culture situation?

This is about KARUTA which is Japanese style card game. First, you put all cards on the ground. One person reads some sentence that is written in those cards. Other people try to find the card. Then, at last a person who has more cards than other people is going to be a winner. Usually, these cards have each Hiragana words, but this KARUTA has the picture of World Heritage Sites include 13 Japanese ones. This KARUTA was made by the students at Tsukuba graduate school.

The reason why I think this is a cross culture situation is because this Japanese traditional game KARUTA has many famous sites in the world. People who don't understand Japanese can't play this game, but they see what the pictures show. If you play this game in English, people would be able to enjoy and study, too!!!

Looks like a fun game, and it definitely would be a good point of conversation for someone not familiar with Japan. Does the game require much Japanese, though, to play?

I use this game all the time in my elementary school English classes. No Japanese is required when you call out an English word to get the card. They call it the slap game in the USA.
